Marina Ortega

I’m a Spanish freelance concept artist and illustrator based in Manchester, UK. My main dream since I was a kid was concepting and illustrating for video games, analog games and books so I studied Fine Arts from 2006 to 2012 in Madrid, then I moved to the UK to continue focusing on concept art and illustration workflows, where I started my career. I worked with all kinds of clients, big and small, like Games Workshop, Fandom, Endnight Games, Revolution Software, Axis Studios, ZA/UM, Meta and more, finally working regularly for Wizards of the Coast in Magic the Gathering and D&D since 2020.

I occasionally worked full time, but I’ve been freelancing since 2014 in a variety of genres, from horror to sci-fi to fantasy. I focus on environments and props but my real pursuit is about bringing emotion, narrative and storytelling to life, no matter the genre or subject. I love pushing the mood and lighting in images, and purposely bringing world-building and real-life elements together, making the fantastic relatable and trying to make the viewer feel the locations.

In my free time I enjoy spending life with my partner and my whippet, playing games, doing photography, reading and going to coffee shops.
